A BIT ABOUT ME
Shelley van Deventer
My passion for the power of transformation through art began at school when I was transported into the world of performing arts. As well as acting, I started learning makeup and hair styling, going on to complete two diplomas before 20 in Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Media.
The golden pavements of London called where I studied Psychology and Cultural Studies at St Mary's University. During my studies I was able to continue my hair and makeup work, continuing my training under the Aveda network and igniting my passion for the environment and the strength of botanicals for beauty. During my seven years in London, I worked with the most amazing extension and wig artists who taught me the joy of creating beauty through addition and enhancement.
After travelling around New Zealand at 25, it was a chance encounter with a new client that saw me being offered a job in Auckland and me migrating within 6 months. Within three weeks I had met my now-husband and we went on the incredibly brave (and very naïve!) journey of owning our own salon. After a very long and arduous 5 years, I closed the salon to focus on other projects including taking on another degree and starting a family. In 2021 we became the incredibly proud owners of a real life human!
I love being busy and between being a mum, studying and looking after my clients I'm incredibly lucky to be able to have so many passions that I get to indulge in every day.
